St. John the Baptist Knights of Columbus Council 8169 is part of St. John the Baptist Church at the corner of Hacker Road and M-59 (Highland Road) between Howell and Hartland. The new Church on the north side of M-59 was built in 2002 and the Little Church (with the cemetery) was built in approximately 1855 is on the south side of M-59. At this time our council is having a trial period for
meeting on the second Tuesday of the month. After the December meeting,
the membership will decide to keep the meetings on the second Tuesday or
change to another day. The General Membership meeting starts at 7:00
pm, at St. John the
Baptist's Thompson Hall, meeting room D. The Council Officers meeting
starts at 7:00 pm. Park in the south parking lot.
St. John the Baptist Council 8169 was
chartered on July 29, 1982 through the efforts of members of the Father John
R. Day Council 2659 in Howell. These men were members of St. John the
Baptist Parish and were asked to start a Church Council at St. John's. The
council functioned until 1989 when meetings stopped. In 1991 the council was
restarted and has been doing well ever since. Our
current membership is 159 and many of the original charter members are
still active in the council. The St. John the Baptist works closely with
the St. John the Baptist Parish near Hartland, providing funds for various
projects, members being active participants in their parish.
We support our Pastor, Rev. Father Francis George., who is also our Council
Chaplain.
